VERUM - Foundation for Behaviour and Environment - based in Munich was established at the instigation of a group of German university professors in the form of a public foundation under German Civil Law. The basic assets amount to 4.1 million Euro.

The Foundation is both supportively and operationally active. Between 1992 and 2002 it was able to support more than one hundred research projects and to distribute subsidies to numerous scientific workshops and conferences due to generous donations from the founder. Since 2003, however, the Foundation relies solely on the profit from its assets so that direct grants had to be considerably reduced. Therefore, the Foundation started to draft research proposals for submission to the EU's Framework Programmes for Research, so that in this way European research teams receive funds from the EU. Up to now, four projects have been funded and successfully completed.
